With a voice that converses comfortably between contralto and mezzo-soprano repertoires, Finnish singer Katariina Poikela works in versatile fields of musical and visual arts. Currently she is studying Master's in the opera programme in Gothenburg, Sweden, with Bo Rosenkull as voice teacher. She has Bachelor's Degrees in voice and vocal pedagogy from Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences with teachers Seppo Ruohonen and Päivi Virolainen-Kalpio. She has also worked with teachers Hannele Valtasaari and Marjut Hannula. Her special interests are Romantic era opera and H.I.P.P. (Historically Informed Performance Practise) particularly in Baroque era music. Among her roles are Orfeo and Lisinga by Gluck and alto soloist in Vivaldi's Stabat Mater and Gloria.
As an independent artist and a private entrepreneur her specialty is á cappella solo performances (Sisinlaulu™, Inmost Song), centering in both traditional tunes and her own compositions. The songs are inspired by and about the fantastical, aethereal and agricultural aspects of the northern nature and original northern lifestyle. Katariina has co-worked with artists of many fields, like dance, video and drama.
